The Terminal takes a proactive approach to asset management and maintenance to maintain high productivity and minimise downtime.

Detailed asset lifecycle strategies and long-term maintenance plans for key equipment have been developed in an integrated asset management approach between NQXT Pty Ltd and APO. This enables informed decision-making, optimises performance, clearly defines roles, and ensures the reliability of critical assets over time for improved performance, optimum efficiency and effective life cycle utilisation.

This approach brings together strategic and tactical asset management and operation. It is embedded in short, medium, and long-term business plans and the Terminal’s capital works plan.

MEAD keeps our marine infrastructure strong and sustainable

Each year, a specialised team of commercial divers and engineers from Marine Engineering and Diving (MEAD) descend beneath the waves to carry out vital maintenance on our offshore infrastructure.

A significant amount of the Terminal’s infrastructure is located offshore, including a 2.75km jetty and two berths. MEAD’s work is essential to protecting the 751 steel pilings that support the Terminal’s jetty from harsh marine conditions. From replacing anodes to inspecting sea shield jackets and testing piling thickness at the seabed, their expertise ensures the structure remains strong, reliable, and environmentally sound.

The Terminal’s pilings are fitted with advanced protective coatings, tidal zone shielding, and a cathodic protection system that guards against corrosion – one of the most effective defences available. This annual program of inspection and maintenance is part of a proactive strategy that protects the life of the infrastructure while safeguarding the surrounding marine environment.
