People

Our people are instrumental to our work as a sustainable organisation.

We strive to ensure our people are safe and healthy, offering a range of educational programs and professional training to achieve this.

We promote health and wellbeing initiatives across our organisations, as well as a safety-conscious culture. We want all staff, contractors, visitors, suppliers, and customers to make it home safely every day. Our Employee Assistance Program (EAP) means our people have access to support and guidance from certified professionals. Additionally, we uphold the requirements for mandatory staff training, providing our people with opportunities to enhance their education and skillsets.

Our on-site operation and maintenance contractor, Abbot Point Operations is responsible for the safe operation of the terminal, which involves transferring product onto awaiting ships for export after the product is delivered by train from mines across the Bowen Basin.

Health and Safety

Both NQXT and our operator Abbot Point Operations support the implementation of safe working practices within a safe workplace culture, and we are committed to maintaining the highest health and safety standards for all workers, contractors and visitors.

The terminal has a zero-fatality workplace record.

Some health and safety initiatives we have implement at the Terminal include:

  • Regular safety and awareness training for all staff, ensuring the safe operation of machinery across the Terminal.
  • Completed 100% of mandatory training on site in FY21
  • Conducted a safety leadership training program for 40 senior employees in FY21

Diversity and Inclusion

We’re committed to providing a safe, inclusive and diverse workplace. We believe that a diverse, inclusive environment increases performance, productivity, and employee engagement.

To be the best we can be, we know we must embrace ideas, thinking and perspectives that are new and different.

An example of a key focus area is:

Developing our diverse workforce through our world-class apprenticeship program. Each year we provide opportunities for three apprentices to join us for a four-year program. We will continue to build on the success of this program by continuing to employ diverse local apprentices.
