Our focus is on long-term, sustainable operations that value and respect the environment in which the North Queensland Export Terminal operates. We prioritise our role as stewards of the land and water around the Terminal.

NQXT Pty Ltd holds a range of approvals related to onshore and offshore operations and the planning and zoning that underpins the Terminal’s infrastructure and supporting infrastructure such as roads, power, water and rail access.

Compliance with these requirements is non-negotiable and integrated into our commercial and operational agreements.

Operations at the North Queensland Export Terminal are governed by several environmental licences and approvals.

We comply with all relevant Queensland and Australian environmental laws and our permits and environmental approvals.

Some of the key environmental licences held by the Terminal include:

  • Environmental Authority for bulk handling and onsite sewage treatment under the Queensland Environmental Protection Act
  • Water licence under the Queensland Water Act
  • Abbot Point Stormwater Return Dam Controlled Action Approval under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act
