The North Queensland Export Terminal has both onshore and offshore infrastructure that enables the efficient transport of thermal and metallurgical coal from central Queensland mines to global markets. This infrastructure includes a jetty, shiploaders, stacker reclaimers and conveyor belts.

Coal is transported from the mines to the Terminal via the Central Queensland Coal Rail Network. Coal arrives in bottom dump rail wagons ready for unloading.

Coal is unloaded at one of the two bottom dump rail unload stations. Train on the incoming railway line have a maximum of 84 wagons.

After being unloaded, coal is transported via a conveyor system and stacked into stockpiles by rail-mounted stacker reclaimer units.

The Terminal has three stockyard bunds, each about one kilometre in length.

There are six stacker reclaimers which, together with the conveyor system, assist in the bulk handling of coal on site.

Once customers have a ship accepted to berth at the Terminal, coal is transported to a shiploader via a conveyor system along a 2.75-kilometre trestle jetty.

The Terminal has two shiploaders that load coal into ships’ locked and sealed cargo holds.

The berthing facilities are capable of loading Very Large Cape size (VLC) vessels.
