1st February 2022

North Queensland Export Terminal's port operator, Abbot Point Operations, has turned up the volume for Bowen students, providing a donation as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility Program to Bowen State School to purchase six state-of-the-art ‘Front Row Hearing’ speaker systems, supporting students who suffer hearing difficulties.

The hearing systems are intended to enhance instructors' voices so hearing-weakened understudies can effectively partake in classroom learning.

Abbot Point Operations (APO) General Manager, Allan Brown, said that the investment into learning for students in Bowen was an investment into the local Bowen area.

"We are excited to be able to support the community of Bowen who supports us.

"These hearing systems will help these children by keeping them occupied with learning and able to hear their educators when they are in class.

"Supporting Bowen State School with this project, provides an opportunity for our business to invest in the prosperity of our young people, guaranteeing that hearing impaired kids are afforded the same chances to hear and discover that other students sometimes take for granted," Mr Brown said.

Bowen State School Head Christien Payne said that Abbot Point Operations' help will truly make an difference to the children of Bowen State School.

"We accept that these speakers will be incredibly advantageous to every one of the 120 Prep and Year One students at Bowen State School," said Mr Payne.

"The purchase of these Front Row Hearing systems means that our young children will be less likely to miss important information when they are learning, and our educators will likewise be saving their voices from strain."

APO's Corporate Social Responsibility Program gives critical financing every year to local community groups, associations and initiatives in the Whitsunday Regional Council area of Bowen and Collinsville. Beginning in 2017, more than $1.2 million has been granted under the program.
